Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before you start growing.

Is this beginner friendly?
Completely. No green thumb and no experience needed. The light and pump run on a timer, and the garden waters your plants for you. Most Hope Heroes had never grown a thing before their first harvest.
Can I grow food year round?
Yes. The full spectrum light runs on a 24 hour timer, so your garden doesn't care what season it is or how dark it gets outside. Plenty of Hope Heroes grow straight through winter.
What can I grow?
Leafy greens, a wide range of herbs, and fruiting plants like tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers. The one thing it can't grow is root vegetables like carrots, potatoes, and onions.
Do I need special pods or a subscription?
No to both. Plant any seed you want from anywhere, there are no proprietary pods, and you never pay a subscription or membership. You buy your garden once and it's yours.
How does it work?
Three simple steps. Drop a seed into the growing media, let the light and pump do the work on a timer, and harvest in about 30 days. You just top up water and nutrients now and then.
Is it easy to set up?
Very. It clips together with no tools and no hoses, and comes with a clear step by step guide. Most people are up and growing the same day it arrives.
How much time does it take each week?
Just a few minutes. Top up the water and nutrients about once a week, and do a quick clean between growing cycles. That's the whole job.
Can I put my garden in the garage?
Yes, as long as the space stays between 18 and 26 degrees Celsius (about 64 to 79 degrees Fahrenheit). A heated garage, a basement, or anywhere in that range works great. If it gets colder or hotter than that, your plants won't grow well.
What happens if I go on vacation?
Top up the reservoir before you leave and your garden runs itself on the timer for a week or two. For longer trips, a quick top up from a friend or neighbor keeps it thriving.
How much does it cost to run?
About $15 a month on average for electricity and water. These gardens sip power, the lights and a small pump are all that run.
Eden Ohana or Eden Tower, which is right for me?
The Eden Ohana is wide and grows more, including larger plants like tomatoes and peppers, up to 22 plants. The Eden Tower is vertical and slim, ideal for greens and herbs in a small footprint, up to 16 plants. Not sure? Try our Garden Planner.
